Integrated Information Literacy and Technology Benchmark Project

Lesson:

Today we are going to work in pairs and read and review a book written by Allen Say. Each pair is going to read an assigned book, write a review on the book, and share this review with the class. Out goal is to write a professional level book review that we can publish on the Internet.

Work Period:

Students will pair off and read and discuss an assigned book written by Allen Say. Students will use Spaghetti Book Club reaction questions and write a review on the book they've read. Students will write this review using the AlphaSmarts. Students will need to edit their own work and make revisions. Once the students have finished their reviews, they will illustrate their work and share their reviews with the class. Students must have general information about the book: title, authors name, illustrators name, publisher of the book, and the number of pages.

Assessment:

Rubric should be created on a chart with students and might include some of the following guidelines:

Proficient - Students produce a review that could/would be published on the Spaghetti Book Club website. Students have a review that is well written, organized, proper conventions, and is illustrated. Student's review is well presented and has at least three reaction questions answered.

Partially Proficient - Students produce a review that is lacking in one or more areas. For example, it may lack organization, proper conventions, etc. Student only has two reaction questions answered.

Unsatisfactory - Student review is unorganized, uses few or no proper conventions, answers only one or no reaction questions.
